The Mind is so fascinating.
Each and every one of was born with
that little space
between our ears.
In English: it’s known as “the brain“.
From the time we’re able to remember. Through Childhood, Young Adult, and even last Tuesday.
Throughout the days, weeks, and years;
The brain is an attic for memories.
Some of them dusty and out of sight. Some things forgotten, then remembered again. Other memories are special treasures.
Day in, and day out: we’re constantly processing information and putting in new thoughts.
A Storehouse for now, often revisited later.
Not only does the brain “store” things; it is our identifiable source for performing daily tasks. From making plans, to following a recipe. Even walking, we use our brain.

The brain weighs about 3lbs and accounts for 2% of the body mass.
How can something so small control us?
Control = Function
The brain is simply an amazing part of our anatomy. It is the scientifically proven source of thought.
Thoughts become Words, Words become Actions, Actions become Habits, Habits become Behavior..
What’s your function?
Each person functions differently. Every one of us have our own story:
- Who are you?
- What do you do?
- Where do you go?
- When are you living?
- Why do you wake up each morning?
Each and every one us were born into the world, uniquely created by our Creator.
We all come from different backgrounds, upbringing, influences, experiences, and environments.
The past can shape who we are.
The future molds us to who we become.

Language and Thought
In our World; there’s over 7,000 languages.
Globally, as humans, we all do the same thing: Wake up, do things, eat, and go to sleep. The day to day LIFE part is what makes each individual unique.
How do we get through life?
Most people have an Internal Monolgue. It’s the “voice” inside our head. Each person has their own voice. It’s like, our self-guided compass. This voice directs us and navigates us through life.
Thoughts become Words
We express ourselves when our thoughts become words.
Feelings are what makes us human.
Each person has their own story and way of thinking. Human beings are capable of feeling and thinking.
That’s what makes us a Person!
People are fascinating!
Out of Billions, you are one of a Kind
One of Mankind.
That’s the beauty!
Each person thinks differently.
Each individual has a different upbringing, background, influences, experiences and environment.
How do the Hearing think?
In the eyes of a deaf person; The hearing world thinks differently. They’ve never experienced daily struggles and challenges to communication.
How do Deaf People Think?
There’s many spectrums of deafness. Deaf, HoH, Deaf-Blind, CODA, SODA… Some of us have never heard a voice out loud. Each and every one of us have a our own way of thinking.
I can only answer this question for myself.
How do I think?
How do my Thoughts become Words?
I have an Internal Monolgue. It’s a voice that I hear and listen to. I think my thoughts in sequence order. Being Visually Oriented, I see the end goal.
When I see something,
I want to say something.
In memory, I see pictures then I recall in a timeline order. I can remember dates and events VERY WELL. I piece together information from any day: start to finish.
I try to listen to the voice of reason. HOWEVER, I’m human and I make excuses.

The Truth will set you Free
The truth is; I was born deaf and I grew up hearing.
Culturally, I identify with the Deaf Community. Connection feels effortless.
In the conversation of Hearing peers; I feel like I’m missing something.
I’m a Thinker, not a Feeler
I wish I could be more receptive to people’s emotions.
I wish I had more empathy.
It takes conscious effort to put peoples feelings first.
In a heartfelt conversation, my full-focus is on hearing each and every word. That does not leave energy left to identify/apply/absorb/understand what was said.

Being Visually Oriented in an Audible World

In a World that hears, I am seeing everything. I walk through life with “glasses” on. Through this glass, I absorb everything around me.
Yet, I feel like everything isn’t clear. And there’s so much that I don’t understand.
In a normal hearing conversation; so much is said! There’s so many words. And it goes on and on. Continually.
Like, whatallarethesepeopletalkingabout?!
It’s a constant banter that I hear, yet simply do not understand.
Why are Deaf people so Direct and Blunt?
In Deaf culture, we’re known for our directness. We don’t beat around the bush.
When I want something, I just ask!
Sometimes I don’t even ask!
Sometimes it’s easier to do it on my own. Because of the daily challenges with communication; Deaf people can be extremely independent.

Receptive Language: The Link between Listening and Literacy
I spent a good part of my childhood practicing my expressive language skills. I never was expected to work on receptive language skills.

The “Take Back”
We’ve all heard the expression; “Communication is a two-way street”.
It’s hard to link, when we’re chained.
Chained to our own feelings, thoughts, and perspective.
As a deaf person; I have entered a conversation without making the announcement.
As a deaf person; I have pretended and went along with the conversation because it’s easier.
Being a Deaf Person; I need to take-back more. Yes... I’m super-focused on hearing every word you said!
Yet, I desire to understand; which requires effort from both of us.
As a conscious human being; I don’t understand every word you said.
And that’s OK!
But it’s not OK to makeyoufeellikeIdidbecauseyouretalkingnormal.
