What does it mean to be Visually Oriented?
See for yourself! You might be Visually Oriented, too!
Before I dive into what it means to be Visually Oriented; I must explain what it’s like to be Auditory Oriented. Which.. I can’t fully do. As a Deaf Person, I could never explain how life goes for a Hearing Person.

How Auditory Thinkers Process Information
Ears come first
As humans; we were created with five senses. Sight is the most valued sense. Hearing is the fastest processing sense.
- Hearing
- Sight
- Smell
- Touch
- Taste
Like dogs rely on their noses. Humans rely on their eyes and ears. The ears alert before the eyes gaze. Therefore, most of the population responds to a lot of noise.
What do you hear?

As a Deaf person, I don’t hear the noise. I’ve discarded my ears as a sense. I cannot/do not rely on my hearing. Subconsciously, it’s a “backburner” sense. Unless something is extremely loud and incredibly close; I won’t hear it. Even with my hearing aids on, I don’t pick up unfamiliar sounds or unseen noises. It’s like, my brain doesn’t process sound primarily. If I don’t know someone is talking to me, then I simply don’t know. I’d most likely respond to touch than hearing.

When talking to a person, I lip read. Accompanied with hearing aids; I hear anywhere from 10% to 90% of the conversation. It depends on who’s talking!

What do you see?
I walk around the world observant. I’m looking and seeking. I only see things. I take every bit of information with my eyes. With my hearing aids on, I can hear ambient noise. But, I view the world through my eyes. Listening to shut off in silence.
I see and absorb everything visually. I notice people, places, and all the things added. Trees, the sky, birds. A neighbor. Wherever I go; I’m scanning and basking in my surroundings. I can hear some, but absorb very little in the auditory way.
What do you feel?
In a World that hears, I am seeing everything. I walk through life with “glasses” on. Through this glass, I absorb everything around me.
I feel like everything isn’t clear. And there’s so much that I don’t understand.
In a normal hearing conversation; so much is said! There’s so many words. And it goes on and on. Continually.
Like, whatallarethesepeopletalkingabout?!
It’s a constant banter that I hear, yet simply do not understand.
How do Deaf People Think?
In the eyes of a deaf person; The hearing world thinks differently. They’ve never experienced daily struggles and challenges to communication.

Different perspective? Or a superpower?

Seeing is Believing, Hearing is Subjective
Timeline Order-Objective Viewpoint:
I see all the sights. The beauty of creation. The sunrise. Flowers, plants, trees. All the tiny stars and the great big moon. Beautiful people. Struggling people. Old people. Young people. Kids. Dogs. The rich man. The homeless man. They’re all so precious. I’ve seen miracles. I’ve witnessed some crazy things. All in All, I am blessed. I greatly appreciate the way life goes!
Order of Feelings-Subjective Standpoint:
Through listening; everything you hear filters through your brain. Most folks form an opinion, meddle through feelings, and hearing becomes subjective. For a Deaf Person; they’re trying so hard to understand each word of speech; very little gets absorbed. It leaves a lot to wonder.
The Viewpoint of Standpoint

No matter where we’re standing; there’s a better view. Life is a Journey. We’re presented with many opportunities. Some things are a choice. Other things can’t be changed. Accept the things you cannot change. Change the things you cannot accept. May God grant you the serenity, courage, and wisdom to know the difference. Live fully and be fulfilled!
Are you Visually Oriented?
15 Signs that you are Visually Oriented
