Cedar Creek is a 2588 Acre State Park in Glenville, WV.
Nestled in the central region of West Virginia. The stereotypical West Virginian “Hills and Hollers” are deeply magnified.
Be deeply moved by the peace, quiet, and tranquility in the beautiful West Virginian hills.
Cast your pole in Cedar Creek, or one of the THREE Fishing Ponds.
A great adventure for Kids and Dogs!
A special quiet place to unwind in peace and tranquility.
Immerse yourself and your family into the deep rolling hills of Appalachia!
Deeper than the Holler, Stronger than the river…
I’m about to get really deep.
Love=Giving
If you’re not giving, you’re not living. If you’re not living, you’re not loving.
I love West Virginia.
I love hiking.
And I love that feeling.
And I want to give it to you (beloved reader) in the best way I can.
Simply put, we can’t “give” feelings.
Feelings are our own experiences, told in our own way.
Feel the love, experience the way!
Set forth and go!
You are so loved ❤️
“Away to spend the day”
Looking into a way to spend the day; Cedar Creek State Park piqued our interest.
“I’ve never been in that area”, I said.
Glenville is the Bullseye of West Virginia. Square, right in the middle.
Smack-dab right-between Morgantown and Charleston; kinda like, Flatwoods!
Many a’times, I’ve made a stop at Flatwoods on the way home. Fuel and a pepperoni roll!
Cedar Creek State Park IS the closest State Park to Flatwoods.
Right away, I knew.
This area looks and feels like a huge, magnified version of
“Home”
As we drove through twisty and windy roads of Copen; it was clear that these folks had some serious rain recently.
The town was ravaged by floods.
Arriving the Destination:
It was a beautiful 75° day, Mid-April. The sky was bright blue, and a few small clouds.
We pulled into the park headquarters. Right in front of me; three large ponds. To my left; a tiny little log shack with the friendliest Park Attendant.
She was the sweetest lady!

(A parking lot view)
I went into the HQ of CC. Grabbed a map. Made friendly banter with the park attendant. The sweet lady told me about the Park View Trail and the connecting Fishermans Trail.
“Go across the road over there, to get started. It’s steep starting out. Be careful!”.

Once we reached the first peak; we could see the entire park!
Cedar Creek State Park has many amenities to offer!

Pools, tennis courts, little lakes.
Rollin’ up and down..
The Ridgeline

we
This particular point was one of the most steep sections I’ve ever hiked.
Anywhere.
Ever.
I’m not a geometry teacher, but that one hill was probably at a 70% incline.
Up and down, and then.. Muddy!

Fishermans Trail
We finished the Park View Trail and came to the highway. Crossed the road and began hiking
The Fishermans Trail
Like I mentioned before, this area was ravaged by floods.

Mud Ogre-load!
We were walking through the thickest mud!
The trail was either underwater OR.. it simply doesn’t exist.
Leaving us to meander whichever direction had the least puddles.
It felt like a real exploration.
I won’t say this is not an ideal hike for kids and dogs.
Call it an adventure! There’s a few particular spots to adapt.

We emerged out of the woods, and into the sunshine. The three ponds were right in front of us. I could see our car, far out in the distance.
Almost to where we started from!
As we walked past the fishing ponds; I was awestruck by the beauty of the birds. So many bluebirds and orioles. They’re so pretty. Dippin’ their little beaks into the pond.
There was an abundance of geese, too.
Back at the car, looking at the lakes again; I could see exactly where we hiked.

Up and down, through the swamp, past the lakes, back to the car.
I went back to the Headquarters to grab another map. The park attendant asked about our hike. We talked about the rain and local flooding. She told me stories of the Campground, the Geese, the Black Swan.
Yes. Cedar Creek had one lone black swan a few years ago!
She told me about the Stone Trough Trail. Which is 3 miles around the Campground section; Water passes through a hand carved rock trough. (Next time! I promise!)
She also suggested that we visit the school house. And we did!
The one-room Schoolhouse
was well preserved and cared for.

Outhouses are OUT
Reflect the Journey:
Bullseye, square, right in the middle!
Cedar Creek State Park would be a great place to go camping! I’d love to come back and spend a few days here.
All Camp Sites are electric and the average rate (2024) is $45 per night
The park offers many amenities; Hiking, Fishing, Paddleboats, Tennis Courts, Swimming Pools, Mini Golf course, Playground, West Virginia History…
There’s an abundance of peace, quiet, and tranquility in these deep hollers.
This is a special place.
Cedar Creek State Park is a special place to unwind in peace and tranquility.
It’s not crowded or busy like New River Gorge Bridge or Harper’s Ferry.
The Hills and Hollers deeply magnify the feelings of “Home”.
Whether you spend the day or the night; Cedar Creek will make you feel right at HOME.
Set forth and go!
Enjoy the journey ❤️
