The Mindset Journey

A Weight loss journey Mindset transformation.

Read how a Deaf woman from West Virginia lost over 200lbs simply by eating her frame and hiking regularly.

TRANSFORM your mind and EMPOWER your journey.

My weight loss “journey” was not a “lets start a strict diet on Monday”.

I started, at square one, very rock bottom at 370lbs.

I was really getting miserable. Putting on shoes, socks, and bending over was a struggle. Worrying about whether a seat would fit. Being out of breath carrying groceries. Not being able to buy jeans anywhere (except Kohl’s).

All I wanted to do was sit down!

I have been overweight since childhood. I can remember dieting as young as 10 or 11 years old. At 16 years old, I was over 250 lbs. Over the years, I’d lose 15 or 20lbs on a “diet” here and there.

Oh yeah. I’ve tried them all. Keto, Atkins/low carb, Mediterranean, juice fasts. It’s the same ol’ story.

The first few days all goes well, I’m riding on the high of losing “12lbs this week”. After 3 weeks, I’ve lost “only 15lbs” and it’s not coming off anymore.

Then my narrative becomes “This is so stupid. I’m starving myself and I can’t enjoy anything. I may as well give up and be fat. At least I can enjoy my life and eat what I want”.

It goes off track, my emotions get the best of me and I FAIL. The cycle continued.

Go on a diet/Eat strict for xxx days/weeks

Give up/Eat whatever I want for xxx months/years

This was my cycle.

However, I did have a pretty successful run with dieting in 2012. My New Years resolution was “I want to lose 100lbs this year”. So, I went on a low carb diet, which I had lost around 50lbs in about 3 months. I was very serious about this “diet”. On Saturdays, I’d literally spend a whole day at the YMCA then go to a Chinese buffet, or pizza after. But that was my cheat day and I was OK with it. By March, I was ready to “give up” low carb and eat “normal food”. I didn’t want to gain back the 50lbs I lost for the *hard work, and my goal was to lose 100lbs by Christmas. So, I decided to eat 1500 calories per day. I tracked every calorie I ate, as well as all physical activity. I had went from 340 to 253. By Christmas I had lost 87lbs!

My goal for 2013 was to quit smoking cigarettes and diet coke. I bought a vape and never smoked another cigarette. I started drinking sweet tea or Dr Pepper instead of diet coke.

My weight was slowly starting to climb from the shift in focus. By 2014, I was back up to 300 again.

The cycle continued.

Gain some.

Lose some.

Keto for a month.

Low carb here and there.

I WAS STUCK!

In the Spring of 2021, I was planning on getting gastric bypass. June 2, 2021 I had the consultation and my mind was made up. I told a few family members and close friends. They all were supportive of my decision. My mom said “You know, Bessie, this is not an easy way out. You still have put in the work”.

Committed and ready,

I decided that I’m doing it on my own

ONE LAST TIME.

So, I made changes and started my

MINDSET Journey.
