Let’s go.. Volunteers!

Mountaineers Volunteer
The city of Morgantown has its perks and quirks. We’re part of the “Mountain State”. In West Virginia, we’re surrounded by high points and low points.
Mountains and valleys.
Hills and hollows.
Peaks and streams.
What is an Appalachian Holler?
Heart of Town
Along with the mix of terrain and waterways; the beauty that surrounds us. The people among us are an eccentric blend. We welcome fresh faces at “The University” each year. We provide resources for the unhoused. Some days, it seems like a bag of mixed nuts. Most residents and “Townies” are down home, good ol’ sweet people.
Better Together

Forrest Gump mentions chocolate. I say life is a journey. But, there’s trail mix! We need the protein, ya know? Sunshine, nature, and people. Such forth is the mixture of life. Some are salty, some are sweet.
Free Together
Mountaineers are always free. Such as the many blessings of life are Sunshine, nature, and people. And it’s FREE! It is the trifecta blend for all y’all crazy nuts. Including myself, plus “kids and dogs”.
The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.

Serve Together
Volunteering welcomes blessings with open arms. People working together for a purpose. That “free time” spent giving, turns into a much greater reward. You get to be part of something much bigger. Time is provided.

Where you invest your love, you invest your life.

Buy Less, Create More
In the theme of Buy Less, Create More. You spend time rather than money. Time is precious, use it wisely. If you’re a numbers person, there’s no better ROI than spending time volunteering.

I’m anti-consumerism for many reasons. Happiness is not bought, it’s created. We buy what we need. The things we consume. The shiny things in the stores may be enticing. We all love a good deal. But, what do you do with clutter?
Clinging to Plastic?
Most clutter is plastic. The path from simplicity to modern convenience was paved with innovation. Generations before us survived without. Can the generation after us survive?

Excuse the Fish
Along with the mix of sunshine, nature, and people. We’re blessed with animals. Land mammals. Birds. Reptiles. Fish. Butterflies, bees, and insects. It’s all connected to something greater.

Just as everything is connected; All of us are entangled together.
WV Wildlife: Littering and its Impact on Wildlife
“When the last tree is cut down, the last fish is caught, and the last river is polluted; when to breathe the air is sickening, you will realize, too late, that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can’t eat money.”
-Cree Indian Proverb
Work Together

“Frog Day”
(Hop to it!)
Save the Frogs Day is held annually in April. The Friends of Deckers Creek puts together such a wonderful event for our community. We certainly enjoyed ourselves last year!

Friends til’ the End
“Moth Night”
(Draw to Light!)
Can’t make it for Frog Day? But, you still want to do something free and cool? Go downstream to Core Arboretum for Moth Night.
Arboretum’s annual Moth Night showcases insects’ under-appreciated beauty

National Moth Week is held annually the last full week of July. Another chance to marvel at tiny beings.
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.
Jesus of Nazareth
Paraphrase from Matthew 6:19-21
Freely Giving
In our community, there are endless ways to give. To each their own! For DIRTVERTS, kids and dogs. FODC is a great place to start.

There are many charity programs out there. Your time is valuable. Spend it wisely. Every person has different hobbies and interests. Find one that suits you!
Each person should do as he has decided in his heart—not reluctantly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver.
