What does music sound like?
I’d love to do a Family Fued type survey and marvel at the responses.

I think every person would answer this differently. What would the your answer be? Survey says…
“Atmosphere”
For me, music is an atmosphere. It fills the air with something rather than silence.

What Does Music Sound Like for a Cochlear Implant User?
From the Inner Circle…
Growing up a Deaf child in the 90’s. I remember Saturday nights before church. On channel 5, FOX: COPS came on at 8pm. Followed by America’s Most Wanted at 9pm.

The theme song was catchy! I mean, everybody knows that song!
“Believe in Yourself”
Also, as a child of the 90s.. I really enjoyed Arthur. Back in the day, and to this day. It was and still is my favorite cartoon show!
What a wonderful kind of day! 🎶
One Love, One Heart
No one in my family. And none of my friends listened to Reggae. I discovered Bob Marley’s music in my early twenties. It became music that I’d listen to alone.
Let’s get together and feel…
For me, I enjoy the unmistakable beat of reggae. Being Deaf, I don’t hear the words. I can try to memorize by reading the lyrics. I really appreciate a song with a good groove and flow.
Alright!
Since discovering Bob Marley, I’ve found many other wonderful artists. Added many songs to playlists. At work, its all on shuffle.

It is Reggae Everyday! And let me tell ya; there’s all kinds of reggae. From classic reggae like, Burning Spear; to “popish British” reggae like, UB40. To modern west coast reggae like, Dirty Heads.
The Rise of British Reggae: 70s & 80s
Do the Reggay
The first reggae song ever recorded
Toots and the Maytals came out with Do the Reggay in 1968. The background music was roots. A blue beat style that defined the genre we know (and love) as Reggae.
Characteristics of Music: Reggae

Reggae is positive and unique music.
“Out of Many, One People”
Modern day Reggae; has many Jamaican Influences. However, Cali-Roots has a different-ish culture and similar-ish sound. Different times for the lifestyle. Society has been through many changes. Both share a positive message and unmistakable groove.
Reggae has a philosophy, you know? It’s not just entertainment. There’s an idea behind it, a way of life behind the music, which is a positive way of life, which is a progressive way of life for better people.
The Evolution of Reggae Culture: Historical Roots and Future Perspectives
I really like the reggae concepts like the culture vibe. They speak on everything that’s going on, they don’t have limits. They speak on politics, they speak on life, they speak on the troubles of poverty, everything. The message, the melodies and the concepts of reggae music are unbelievable.
Jamaican Colors?
What do Reggae colors symbolize?
Green, red, and gold are symbolic colors in reggae music. In the early days of Reggae; the music spoke for the suffering people.
Rastafari religion is closely intertwined, down to the roots of reggae. Calls for change have spread through the Reggae movement.
Reggae As Social Change:
The Spread of Rastafarianism
Artists such as Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff and Bob Marley voiced songs in expression and protest.

“Spirituality does not come from religion. It comes from our soul..
We must stop confusing religion and spirituality. Religion is a set of rules, regulations and rituals created by humans, which was suppose to help people grow spiritually. Due to human imperfection religion has become corrupt, political, divisive and a tool for power struggle. Spirituality is not theology or ideology. It is simply a way of life, pure and original as was given by the Most High of Creation. Spirituality is a network linking us to the Most High, the universe, and each other…”
Spiritual to Free-Spirit
The early days of Reggae was a cry for change. Revolutionary songs.
Today’s modern Reggae leans into living in the moment. Songs of celebration.

Old or New, Tried and True
Whether you’re into classic reggae. Or the Cali-Roots.
Whether you believe in Jah, Jesus, or yourself. Even if you don’t believe, at all.
Whether you like the herb, or not.
Reggae Music Encourages
Whether you hear the message, or read the lyrics.
The philosophy is quite simple. The message is unity, peace, and love. No separation, no division, no strife. And the groove is.. groovy, baby!
