Whatever clothes retailers don’t/can’t sell; they end up in discount chains (Gabes, TJ Maxx, Ross). Sometimes, through a sale, it gets snagged up. Bought by somebody, a consumer. Next stop is thrift stores. Then to shipped West for one last and final chance. Then they ultimately go to African landfills.

Each person has a different amount of clothes they own. Most everyone takes pride in appearance; aiming to look presentable. However, most of us run on a schedule. We all have laundry. You likely have a dresser. Or drawers for clothes, too.

Checklist for Decluttering Clothes

This is what I own. It’s merely a guide. We do laundry weekly. All my clothes fit into my dresser. And they fit me!

  • Hats: 3 Winter hats. Each different levels of warmth. A balaclava, too.
  • Gloves: 2; Snow gloves and knit gloves.
  • Coats: 1 Winter coat. 6 Hoodies (yes, it’s more than I need. But I LOVE my Hoodies!)
  • Shirts (in closet): 5 short sleeve dress shirts, 5 dress sweater, 2 cardigans, 2 Christmas sweaters. 3 dresses.
  • Shirts (in drawer): 10 t-shirts, 4 long sleeve shirts, 3 tank tops.
  • Pants/Shorts; 3 Jeans, 3 dress pants, 2 Yoga pants, 2 pajama pants, 2 denim shorts, 2 Yoga shorts. Snow pants, too.
  • Socks: 10 “Summer” ankle socks, 5 dress socks, 5 wool winter socks
  • Shoes: OBOZ Boots, crocs, dress shoes, dress sandals, tennis shoes.
  • 1 Swimming Suit
  • Bras: 4 Bras
  • Underwear: 10 pairs

Sort by Keep, Donate, and Let Go

Anything never worn.

Clothes for “projects”

Clothes that “might fit one day”

Clothes that are stained, ripped, torn, and generally worn out.

Be Mindful of donations. Most employees/volunteers at thrift stores will NOT put out stained and worn-out clothes with holes. Save them and yourself of the trouble. It’s not wanted. Trash or burn it.

Be a part. Do your part.

When I open my drawers; I adore it. My clothes suit me. They serve a purpose to keep me warm and covered. I don’t shop because I feel like it. I know what I have. I  have everything I need.
