Pipestem State Park is a 4,050 acre park in southern West Virginia.
The State Park that sprawls over two counties in Southern WV.
Why is it called Pipestem?
Remembering West Virginia’s Indigenous History

A Way to Spend the Day!
Planning the Adventure
This adventure was part of the Coalfield Waterfalls Roadtrip.

Once we got to Camp Creek State Park; Pipestem was just a scoot up the Mountain.
Pipestem State Park gets its name from the Spirea Alba; the indigenous Natives used as pipestems for smoking.
Arriving the Destination
Pipestem State Park has an elevated sense of ambience. Not only is the resort setting 3000ft. above sea level. It has a luxurious feel. It is kinda boujee. Ya know?

Playground
The playground area was beautiful. Everything was well maintained. All the roads were paved.

in real life!
Bolivar Tower
Even the trail to the lookout tower was paved. However, the trail is not handicap friendly. The trail leading to the lookout tower is steep, but smooth.

Top O’ the Tower
At the top you can see the Appalachian Mountains all around you. It’s spots like these that make me feel so small. Like, a little tiny speck. Earth is HUGE; and this is only about 50 miles of views.

In all that beauty; look out and see.
The one who made it all.
Also made me.
I will enjoy and take care of it all.
As it takes care of me.

Love every speck of Life around you
Pipestem Falls
Scoot outta the park! Head North on Rt. 20 (towards Hinton)

Off to the right side is a pull off spot. There’s a historical marker that “marks the spot”. As well as a West Virginia Waterfalls sign.

Be sure to walk up the stairs, and behind. What a hidden gem!
Is Pipestem good for kids?
Yes! Kids will love Pipestem! There are countless activities for the entire family to enjoy together. Even Whitewater Rafting for children (must be 6 years old).
Is Pipestem good for dogs?
Mckeaver Lodge has pet friendly rooms. There’s several pet friendly Cabins. Dogs will enjoy this area and all the hiking and sight-sniffing.
Two Thumbs Up! 👍🏻👍🏻
I’d love to come back here and spend more time. It’s on the to-do list. Maybe next Summer!
