Is Twin Falls Resort State Park good for Kids and Dogs?
Planning the Adventure
This trip was part of Coalfield Waterfalls: WV Adventures and Roadtrips.

We planned, packed, and left for the trip within 30 minutes. The iternary had already been somewhat researched. Being a Dog Sitter; we’ve got a stand-by “spinnanight bag”. All I needed to do was book a room.
On the way down; we called Twin Falls Resort State Park and booked a room. Good to go! We were super excited about staying here. I’ve seen the pictures of this fancy-pants resort online. It looks snazzy!
Arriving the Destination
Wait.. Where are we?
“Twin Falls Resort State Park”
Isn’t it fun when you punch something in Google maps and it says you’ve arrived? But, you really haven’t arrived. Isn’t it fun?
We came into the Park the back way. The road much less trodded. Black Fork road.
We came up on another car; I rolled down my window. An older gentleman rolled down his window.
“Excuse me..How do we get to the Lodge?”
“Keep straight down that road there”; he said slowly in the thickest Coalfield dialect.

Seeing Double has never looked so Good
Upon our arrival to the resort; we were greeted by “Nelson”; One of the State Park maintenance crew at Twin Falls. He gave us a grand tour of the property before we officially got checked in.
Lobby area with high ceilings. Stone Mason fireplace. Wood floors. So much rustic swank. And all the Fall decor!

Good people, like this, make the world shine. And there’s a few really good folks here.
Twice as Nice!
Out of all the State Parks we’ve visited. Twin Falls Resort State Park gets an honorable mention for the kindest people. These friendly folks are the West Virginians that make the park shine.

Twin Falls is a beautiful place!

New Wing Dedicated at Twin Falls
The Kennedy campaign credits the state of West Virginia for the presidential election of 1966.
Many roads were constructed and built. A few state parks were developed to Kennedy’s promise to West Virginia.
Acquisition of Land, development and construction began in the 1960s. Half of Twin Falls Resort was built in 1968. The other half is an expansion built in 2016.
Standard Room, Double Beds
Over the phone, we booked the standard room at a nightly rate of $130. We got a room right next to the pool. Sweet!
Heck yeah!
Until I opened the door; I could smell cigarette smoke. No way. I went back to the lobby. They informed me that there would be an upcharge for a new room. Unless I wanted the third floor. We took the third floor. It was a clean room, yes. However the standard room is extremely outdated. It doesn’t quite reflect the price paid. In my hotel/motel/condominium experiences;
The room had $60 motel vibes.
Hotel, Motel, Holiday Inn
It may sound like apples to oranges;
Last year, for $150 we stayed right next to Niagara Falls. A historic hotel complete in 1923. Free fine-dining breakfast, too!

We paid $130 for the standard room. That reflects the rooms built in 1968. Breakfast is not included. No views from the room.
I wish I could recommend a stay here. It’s a great park for a day trip. But, the resort is exorbitantly priced for the standard room.
Twin Waterfalls

Like the Parks namesake; Twin Falls is home to two waterfalls. The trail is an easy, level 1 mile loop hike.

The entire state of West Virginia has been under a dry spell lately. We all need the rain!
Double the Time
Twin Falls State Park is situated high up on a mountain. Pineville is 20 minutes; Mullens is 20 minutes away. Either take a drive or enjoy the amenities here.
Twice as much!
Instead of taking a drive, we made an order. The resort has Twin Falls Restaurant. We ordered a pizza to enjoy in the room. The pie was a 12″ pizza with pre-made crust; $24. It was basically a 7-Eleven Pizza. Which it was good! But.. Probably twice the cost we should’ve paid.
One Pioneer Farm
One of the coolest parts of Twin Falls State Park is the Pioneer Farm. After the break of dawn, we made the trek to see the old farm life.

Get a glimpse of frontier life at the Twin Falls Pioneer Farm

The Farm is currently owned and inhabited. The owners had their truck warming up as we were making way around the farm.

It’s a beautiful homestead. Built in 1835. Complete with gardens, saw mill, and root cellar.

What a cool experience! To see an old time working farm. The chilly Autumn morning and the colorful leaves. The midst of the fog and dew. So cool!
Many Deer!
Twin Falls State Park is well known for the deer population. Early morning, we saw so many Whitetail Deer grazing their first meal of the day.

Is Twin Falls Resort State Park good for kids and dogs?
The kids and dogs will have a blast here! So many amenities for the kids. Nice maintained trails for the pups!
It’s a way to spend a day!
