Set Back and listen..

Brice Kennedy has been making people laugh for years! I’ve had the pleasure of knowing him personally for the past 10 years. I’ve heard the stories of his “acting days”. Yet, I had never experienced the excitement first hand.

Back before Christmas 2023, Brice announced that he was filming in a new movie. I was pleased to hear that he jumped back into acting. Something he truly enjoys. He kept us up to date with the project, film release, and anything we were allowed to know.

After taking a hiatus; How did you get back into acting?

Good question. I’m one of those people who can’t seem to focus on more than one creative endeavor at a time. So I wanted to get into music and put acting on hold. I wrote a song or two, polished up the guitar playing and sang a lot over a few years. The years added up, I got the acting bug again and here I am!

Why do you enjoy acting?
I’m not sure if I believe in concepts like destiny but IF people really are put on this planet for a reason, then mine is to entertain in some capacity. As absolutely cheesy as it may sound, I get such fulfillment out of bringing smiles to people’s faces… and have no problem doing that at my own expense.

What is your biggest challenge as an actor?
Remembering lines! It’s always been my Achilles heel and still is.

How has living in West Virginia impacted your acting career?
In order to truly have a Hollywood career, Los Angeles or New York are still the places to be. That said, you don’t HAVE to relocate to act. There are community theaters everywhere and, if you look around, you’ll see that filmmakers are in abundance now more than ever before. Between the advent of digital video, particularly HD and now 4K, filmmaking and acting in movies are more plausible than before. And of course, the Internet has made everything easier from networking to marketing to distribution, too.

If these filmmakers aren’t in your backyard, they may not be far away. People in this area, North Central West Virginia, are pretty lucky because within a four or five hour radius, you have Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Cleveland. As for low budget horror, you’ve got guys like Mark Polonia in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania and Brad Twigg of Fuzzy Monkey Films who’s based out of Martinsburg, West Virginia. For a while now, access to directing, producing and acting are as realistic as karaoke is to singing.

Who is your greatest influence?
That’s a question I’ve been asked before and I never really know how to answer. There are so many talented actors and actresses out there, that it’s impossible to name just one. It’s a lot like naming your favorite song. I marvel at artists like Bill Skaarsgard and Cate Blanchett. I mean, I could talk for hours about this… or anything for that matter. Blabbing on and on and on is second nature for me. Just ask my girlfriend.

What was your favorite role?
That’s an easy one… Rodney Spinner of Splatter Beach. That was the last movie I did before my hiatus and I thought may be my swan song haha. I have to say though that I have a growing fondness for the character of Jack in Cocaine Werewolf, one of the latest movies I’ve been lucky to be a part of. Smarmy, arrogant business people are fast becoming some of my favorite roles to play. Maybe that’s second nature, too. Who knows.

“Cocaine Werewolf” was filmed entirely in the PA Appalachian Mountains; How was that experience?
I loved it! I’ve done more than a few movies in the gorgeous mountains of Pennsylvania and the natural beauty there is second to none. I mean, next to West Virginia of course! Check out the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon if you’re in the area. It’s very similar to WV’s own Cooper’s Rock complete with coin operated binoculars! The view there is just stunning.

How did you prepare for the role of Jack?
In this case, it was pretty easy. I just did a bunch of coke! Really though, there wasn’t a whole lot of preparation just because of the fact that Jack is really quite the jerk so it came natural to me. Okay seriously, I just patterned my take on what I believed would be a stereotypical impatient and self-centered businessman. ‘Twas fun!

What was your favorite scene filming in “Cocaine Werewolf”?
If I had to pick, I would say it would be where Jack is in the woods. I don’t want to spoil anything but Jack goes to this creek to wash his face. Naturally, I had to splash this water on my face and didn’t know what to expect. It was crystal clear! Once again, the forests there really show you just how magical nature can be. It wasn’t a big scene or anything but traipsing around in the woods like that was a lot of fun!

What advice would you give to someone who wants to get into the industry?
It’s interesting because the internet is full of information about how to get started in acting. The thing you don’t get from the Internet though is official acting advice from ME!

Seriously though, check out your local community theater, get some good headshots, hone your craft, etc, etc… again, plenty of stuff you’ll read about online. One crucial thing though is to never give up. Persistence is the operative word and there will be people who tell you that it’s not worth trying. The thing is though that those are the people who will envy you for going after your dream. Take that to heart!

Full Cycle, the Stars Aligned.. And we’re over the moon!
